　「疑問副詞 why／how 」

Why／How は理由と方法を尋ねる疑問詞。When／whereと同じく疑問副詞に分類されます。疑問文の作り方は他と同じ。How には疑問文以外にも様々な使い方があります。

ショッピングのために車でデパートに行った。
I went to the department store (for shopping by car).（第1文型）
Did you go to the department store (for shopping by car)?
(A) Why did you go to the department store? （なぜ？）
(B) How did you go to the department store? （どうやって？）

彼は仕事のためにカードでスマートフォンを買った。
He got a smart phone (for work by a card). （第3文型）
Did he get a smart phone (for work by a card)?
(C) Why did he get a smart phone? （なぜ？）
(D) How did he get a smart phone? （どうやって？）

(A)　なぜデパートに行ったのですか？

(B)　どうやってデパートに行ったのですか？

(D)　どうやってスマホを買ったのですか？

　「関係副詞 why／how 」

関係代名詞は、先行詞である名詞を修飾して名詞節になります。関係副詞も「副詞」とはなっているけど、その機能は関係代名詞と同じ名詞節です。

関係代名詞では関係詞節中の先行詞と被る名詞が抜けるのに対して、関係副詞では関係詞節中の先行詞と被る副詞が抜ける、というのが関係代名詞と関係副詞の違い。

whyの先行詞は理由を表す要素。

これこそ私が毎日英語を勉強する理由です。
(E) This is the reason why I study English every day.
This is the reason.
I study English every day (to study abroad).

the reason とwhyのどちらかを省略することができます。
(○) This is the reason I study English.
(○) This is why I study English.

Howの先行詞は方法を表す要素。

こうやって私は英語を習得しました。
(F) This is the way how I leaned English.
This is the way.
I learned English (by using this text).

the wayは省略可能。howはthe way thatに変換可能。the way (that) のthat は省略可能。

(○) This is how I learned English.
(○) This is the way that I learned English.
(○) This is the way I learned English.

　「間接疑問文 why／how 」

間接疑問文の作り方（疑問副詞）

I didn’t come (because of the illness).
because of the illness をwhy に置き換える →　I didn’t come why
why を文頭に持ってくる why I didn’t come

これで「私が来なかった理由」という意味の間接疑問文が出来ます。間接疑問文は名詞節なので主語や目的語として使えます。

(G) You must tell me why you didn’t come.
(H) The problem is how I will earn my living.

how＋to 不定詞
疑問詞＋to 不定詞で名詞句を作ることができます。Why＋to不定詞という使い方はない。

(I) I want to know how to make money.
to make money (by using internet) → how to make money

(E)　これこそ私が毎日英語を勉強する理由です。

(F)　こうやって私は英語を習得しました。

(G)　なぜ来なかったのか理由を言うべきだ。

(H)　問題はどうやって生活費を稼ぐかだ。

(I)　お金を稼ぐ方法を知りたい。

　「様々な使い方 how 」

感嘆文

感嘆文を作る場合、形容詞ならHow＋形容詞の形にして文頭に持ってくる。名詞ならばwhat＋名詞の形にして文頭に持ってくる。

(J) He is honest.
(J) How honest he is!

(K) You are careful.
(K) How careful you are!

疑問文

はじめまして（初対面のあいさつ）
(L) How do you do?

調子どう？
(M) How are you?
(N) How are you doing?

程度を尋ねる
(O) How long did you wait? （時間）
(P) How far is your home from here? （距離）

数量を尋ねる
(Q) How many books do you have? （数）
(R) How much is this book? （量）

～はどうですか？どう思いますか？（how about ～）
(S) How about that book?
(T) How about the result?

どうして～？なぜ～？（how come ～）
(U) How come you didn’t buy it?
(V) How come he is here?

～はどうですか？～はどうしましょうか？（how do you like ～）
(W) How do you like single life?
(X) How do you like your egg?

(J)　彼は何て実直なんだろう！

(K)　君は何て慎重なんだろう！

(L)　はじめまして。

(M)(N)　調子どう？

(O)　どれくらい待った？

(P)　ここから君の家までどれくらいの距離？

(Q)　君は本を何冊所有していますか？

(R)　この本はいくらですか？

(S)　その本どう？

(T)　結果はどうだった？

(U)　何で買わなかったの？

(V)　何で彼がここにいるの？

(W)　一人暮らしはどうですか？

(7) 始めから終わりまでどれくらいの時間がかかります？

(8) 一日にどれくらいコーヒーを飲みますか？
