英作文の方法 【 when／where 】
「 疑問副詞 when／where 」
When／whereは時間と場所を尋ねる疑問詞。場所や時間は副詞扱いされることが多いので「疑問副詞」という分類になります。疑問文の作り方は他と同じ。
12時にデパートに行った。
I went to the department store at twelve.（第1文型）
Did you go to the department store at twelve?
(A) When did you go to the department store? （いつ？）
(B) Where did you go at twelve? （どこで？）
彼は先週、家電量販店でスマートフォンを買った。
He got a smart phone (at an appliance store last week). （第3文型）
Did he get a smart phone (at an appliance store last week)?
(C) When did he get a smart phone? （いつ？）
(D) Where did he get a smart phone? （どこで？）
(A) 何時にデパートに行きましたか？
(B) 12時にどこに行っていましたか？
(C) 彼がスマホを購入したのはいつですか？
(D) 彼のスマホはどこ買ったものですか？
「 関係副詞 when／where 」
関係代名詞は、先行詞である名詞を修飾して名詞節になります。関係副詞も「副詞」とはなっているけど、その機能は関係代名詞と同じ名詞節です。
関係代名詞では関係詞節中の先行詞と被る名詞が抜けるのに対して、関係副詞では関係詞節中の先行詞と被る副詞が抜ける、というのが関係代名詞と関係副詞の違い。
When の先行詞は時間を表す要素。
4月は新入生が入学する月です。
(E) April is the month when new students enter a school.
April is the month.
New students enter a school (in April).
関係副詞 when は that で代替可能。省略も可能。
(○) April is the month that new students enter a school.
(○) April is the month new students enter a school.
関係副詞when は先行詞なしで名詞節として機能することもある。
(F) April is when new students enter a school.
この場合、when は一語で「the time when」を表し「～する時」という意味になります。
関係副詞when は「前置詞＋which」に置き換え可能。
(G) April is the month in which new students enter a school.
New students enter a school in Aprilのin April を in which に置換します。in which を関係副詞節の文頭に持ってきて主節とつなげます。
Whereの先行詞は場所を表す要素。
ここは私が毎週英語を学んでいる学校です。
(H) This is the school where I study English.
This is the school.
I study English at the school.
関係副詞 where は先行詞なしで名詞節になることが可能。
(G) April is when new students enter a school.
このwhere は一語で「the place where」を表し、「～する場所」という意味になります。
関係副詞 where は「前置詞＋which」に置き換え可能。
(H) This is the school at which I study English.
I study English at the schoolの at the school をat which に置換します。at which を関係副詞節の文頭に持ってきて主節とつなげます。
(E) 4月は新入生が入学する月です。（関係副詞で）
(F) 4月は新入生が入学する月です。（関係副詞なしで）
(G) 4月は新入生が入学する月です。（前置詞＋whichで）
(H) ここは私が毎週英語を学んでいる学校です。（関係副詞で）
(I) ここは私が毎週英語を学んでいる学校です。（関係副詞なしで）
(J) ここは私が毎週英語を学んでいる学校です。（前置詞＋whichで）
「 間接疑問文 when／where 」
間接疑問文の作り方 （疑問副詞）
She left the room (earlier).
earlierをwhen に置き換える → She left the room when
whenを文頭に持ってくる When she left the room
これで「彼女が部屋を出た時間」という意味の間接疑問文が出来ます。先行詞を省略した関係副詞とほぼ同じ構造と言えるでしょう。名詞節なので主語や目的語として使えます。
(K) I don’t know when she left the room.
(L) I want to know where she had gone.
when＋to 不定詞／where＋to 不定詞
疑問詞＋to 不定詞で名詞句を作ることができます。
(M) Do you know where to get the ticket?
(N) Please tell me when to start.
to get ticket (at a shop) → where to get ticket
to start (at twelve) → when to start
(K) 彼女がいつ部屋を出たのかわからない。
(L) 彼女がどこへ行ってしまったのか知りたい。
(M) チケットはどこで手に入りますか？
(N) いつ開始すればいいのか教えてください。
「 接続詞 when／where 」
接続詞When は「～する時」という意味の副詞節になります。条件を表す接続詞中（when, if など）では未来形は用いないという特徴があります。
(O) When it rains, I stay home all day.
(P) Please call me when he comes back.
Where は「～する所へ」という意味の副詞節になります。
(Q) I showed them where they can take a rest.
(O) 雨が降った時は、丸一日家で過ごします。
(P) 彼が帰ってきたら電話してください。
(Q) 私は彼らを休息できる場所へ案内した。
英作文トレーニング 「 when／where 」
(1) いつここへ来たの？
(2) どこへドライブに行くの？
(3) ニューヨークに初めて行った日を思い出す。（関係副詞）
(4) ニューヨークに初めて行った時を思い出す。（関係副詞なしで)
(5) ここは私が初めて彼女と出会った道だ。（関係副詞）
(6) ここは私が初めて彼女と出会った場所だ。（関係副詞なしで）
(7) 雨が降ったら、洗濯物を取り込んでください。
(8) ２人だけになれる場所へ彼女を連れていった。

(3) I remember the day when I first went to New York.
(4) I remember when I first went to New York.
(5) This is the street where I first met her.
